"Today was another great day. We started off bright and early getting some breakfast then went across town for hockey practice. We had a good practice really diving into breakouts and forechecks. We are starting to get back to the game we normally play after a long Christmas break. The rink is very different because of how cold they have it as,l well as the ice being larger that what we are used to. Our goal is to get ready for the university team that we will be playing on Friday.
Â
After practice we went to eat lunch, where we had authentic Slovakian food again. It was very different, but good. After lunch we were able to have some time to ourselves and finally were able to catch up on some rest.
Â
In the late afternoon and evening, we divided into groups for mission work. My group went to Bratislava Faith Community Church, which is an English speaking church that has a Bible study and meal on Tuesday nights. We had curry for dinner and were able to share about our trip so far in Slovakia, as well as how God has changed our lives this week and we answered many of their questions. We heard a story from one of the members where she talked about how she helped run the underground church during the communist regime. It was a very moving time for the group.
Â
Lastly we went back to DePaul, the homeless shelter, where we got the chance to serve soup and bread for dinner. It's a very humbling experience to see how they live and struggle to get the essential things in life. We will be going back there again on Thursday one final time as a team
Â
The other groups cleaned and shoveled snow at DePaul, while another group distributed socks and blankets with Christians in the City and one group served dinner at "The Bridge," which is another homeless shelter.
Â
Overall it was a really good day and I'm excited to see what transpires the rest of the week."
