MARSHALL, Texas – Picking up a series sweep last week at George's Pond against Texas State University, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team will look to finish with their third straight winning season in program history as they host Texas Christian University this weekend. ETBU has won three straight games as this will be their last home and regular season games of the year. ETBU will be playing in the TCHC Tournament next week in Dallas.
Against TSU, ETBU outscored the Bobcats 27-7. Game one was an 11-3 victory while game two brought the Tigers a 16-4 triumph.
Davis Van Gemerden scored nine goals in the series, including six in game one.
Riley Knott wound up scoring seven goals in the series, which included five in game two.
Van Gemerden's nine goals have propelled him into the team lead in goals with 32, but second in points with 59 thanks to 27 assists. He falls behind Knott (31 goals, 29 assists), who leads the team with 60 points.
Michael Garvie leads the team in assists with 33, which along with 22 goals, puts him in third with 55 points. In goal, Nicholas Buzzuto has a save percentage of 88% making 269 saves while
Alex Domas maintains a team low 3.22 GAA.
With the sweep, ETBU has evened their record at 11-11 and are still in second in the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference North Division behind Dallas Baptist University. Behind them is ETBU's next opponent in TCU, who is currently 4-13 overall and 3-7 in the division. The Horned Frogs recently fell in two straight contests to DBU by scores of 4-2 and 7-1. Leading the team is Evan Jones (29 goals, seven assists) with 36 total points while Josh Daniel has a team-leading 17 assists. Goaltender Owen Roche has a GAA of 5.72 with a save percentage of 90.8%.
Friday night's game one will start at 10:00 PM while Saturday's game two starts at 2:00 PM.
