MARSHALL, Texas – Completing their regular season with a sweep of Texas Christian University, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team will face the Horned Frogs squad again in their first-ever post-season playoff appearance in the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference Championship Tournament. They will play on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. and the winner will take on the University of Texas-El Paso on Friday.
Last weekend in Shreveport, La., ETBU swept TCU outscoring the Horned Frogs 29-0. Overall,
Davis Van Gemerden led the way with seven goals while
Filip Soderstrom tallied six in the two games. Van Gemerden led ETBU with four goals in the first game, which was a 9-0 win and added a hat trick on Saturday alon with Soderstrom and
Riley Knott tallied in the 20-0. Also making contributions were seniors Mike Garvie (three goals) and
Kris Perry (one goal), who combined for four goals all series long. Other goal scorers during the series included
Drake Evans in game one and two goal performances from
Skyler Spiller,
Nick Scott, and Maason Sprott in game two.
For the third straight season since their inception in 2016, the Tigers finished with a winning record as they ended the regular season 13-11 and were second in the TCHC North Division with a 9-3 record. By finishing second, the Tigers are now set to take on TCU, who finished third in the division, in the North Division Wild Card playoff game on Thursday.
ETBU's first-ever post-season game will be played in Dallas on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
