MARSHALL, Texas - Dominating their previous home series against the University of Texas Dallas Comets, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team will look to build off that series as they hit the road this weekend for an American Southwest Conference series against Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys. This will be their final road series for the month of March as they will play home contests for the next eleven games.
ETBU picked up two wins in a three-game series against UTD, which upped their record to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the ASC. Game one was an 11-3 victory with
Zach Gartner leading with three RBI while
Derrick Findley notched his fourth win with six innings allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts. After falling in game two 8-6, the Tigers bounced back to deliver a 14-2 win in game three. Starting pitcher Alain Underwood picked up his first win with six shutout innings allowing five hits while striking out two batters.
The previous series was incredibly special for
Brady Faulkner, who batted .538 with 10 RBI and three homers, including an eight-RBI, two-homer game in the 14-2 win. This performance garnered him ASC Hitter of the Week honors marking the second weekly honor for the team and first for a hitter.
Another key player in the previous series was
Landen Barns, whose eight hits bumped him up to the top of the leaderboard with a .424 batting average and 28 hits.
Casey Combs still has the RBI lead with 15 while
Seth Mikeska earned his team-leading fifth homer on the series. Findley leads all pitchers with four wins while
Adrian Stover remains the only Tiger pitcher with a 0.00 ERA.
John Marrs still has 16 strikeouts to lead for ETBU.
This weekend sees ETBU take on an HSU team that while 6-9, are 3-3 in the ASC as well. This comes after taking two-of-three against the Lobos of Sul Ross State University. The Tigers lost their last series against HSU after taking the first game. John Paul Tople has a .405 batting average to lead the team but fellow teammates Hunter Garrison (20 hits) and Jamie Dominguez have 12 RBI apiece. Jaxon Terrell (3.22 ERA, 31 strikeouts) and Hayden Clark (3.98 ERA) have three wins each on the mound.
Game one will start on Friday at 7:00 PM while Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
