PREVIEW: @ETBU_Baseball Taking on Millsaps, UTD This Week

MARSHALL, Texas – After taking the series win against McMurry University, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team will play four games this week getting back into American Southwest Conference play.  ETBU will travel to Jackson, Miss., on Tuesday for a regional game and then host the University of Texas Dallas on Friday and Saturday. Saturday will be James Morgan Day at Woods Field.
 
Last weekend, ETBU took care of business with two wins against McMurry in Abilene. Game one was an 8-1 seven-inning win. Brady Faulkner was instrumental with three hits while Casey Combs, Drew Large, and Seth Mikeska had two RBI on two hits. Reliever Alek Arellano would earn the win with a strikeout in his inning of work. Game two would be an 8-4 victory as Landen Barns knocked three hits while Zach Gartner collected two RBI on two hits. Derrick Findley won his third game with six innings allowing one run on three hits. ETBU would fall in the third game 8-5.
 
The Tigers are 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the ASC. Combs has taken over the batting average (.429), hits (21), and RBI lead (13) while Mikeska has four homers to lead the team. On the mound, Chad Boudreaux and Call Florence both have an ERA of 1.93 while John Marrs leads the pitching staff with 15 strikeouts.
 
ETBU heads to Jackson, Miss., for a quick nine-inning game against the Majors on Tuesday. This marks the second meeting this year between the two schools as ETBU will look to sweep the series following an 8-7 walk-off win two weeks ago. MC is currently 3-10 following a split with Centre College. Jimmy Fondren leads with a .296 batting average, 16 hits, and 14 RBI. He also has won two games on the mound going 10.1 IP allowing an ERA of 1.74.
 
This weekend, ETBU plays hosts to the Comets of UTD, who swept the Tigers last season. At 6-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play, UTD recently lost two of three to Hardin-Simmons. Thomas Craig commands the offense with a .381 batting average to go with 24 RBI on 24 hits, including six homers. Pitching wise, Jordan Box has an ERA of 0.00 in five appearances while he, Ryan Vera (2.84 ERA), Blake Divalerio (2.93 ERA), Logan McPherson (4.22 ERA), Blake Bihm (6.30 ERA), and Nick Gambirasi (7.36 ERA) have won a game each won a game for UTD.
 
The first pitch on Tuesday will be thrown at 4:00 PM.
