MARSHALL, Texas – After making the post-season in 2018-19 for the first time in program history, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team begins their fourth season looking to make a longer run at the end of the year. The 2019-20 season begins this weekend when they head to Austin, Texas, to take on Texas State University.
ETBU returns 18 players to their squad, including five seniors and one graduate student. They also add 11 newcomers to the squad. Last season, ETBU finished with their third straight winning season going 14-12 overall and reaching the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament in their first year of eligibility. They produced the program's first-ever post-season win with a first round win over Texas Christian University before falling in the semi-finals to Texas-El Paso.
Last season, ETBU swept the Bobcats by outscoring them 27-7 in the two games. Davis Van Gemerden combined for nine goals in the two games, which included six in the first game while Riley Knott tallied seven goals in the series, including five in game two.
The puck will drop at 8:30 PM on Friday night and 7:45 PM on Saturday night. The games will take place at Chaparral Ice.
