PREVIEW | @ETBU_Hockey Making First Appearance in ACHA Regional

MARSHALL, Texas – Taking a long trip up north to make history in the post season, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team will fly out to Boise, Idaho, for the upcoming American Collegiate Hockey Association West Regional Tournament. They will open up with a first round match against a familiar opponent in Cal State-Northridge. These two teams faced each other earlier in the year as ETBU won in California, 4-3, in overtime.

ETBU
  • Finished the regular season 22-3-1 overall.
  • Fell 3-2 in overtime to Texas A&M in the second round of the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference. Riley Knott and Davis Van Gemerden would each score a goal for ETBU in that contest.
  • Making their first ever ACHA Regional Tournament appearance
  • Played CSUN on Oct. 11 and won 4-3 in overtime. Filip Soderstrom finished with two goals, plus the overtime winner while Timothy Zittel and Ryan Gruszka each scored for the Tigers.
  • Should ETBU beat CSUN, they will either play #3 Metro State University-Denver at 1:00 PM or #4 Montana State University at 2:30 PM pending the outcome of #9 Northern Arizona vs. #12 Boise State University.
  • Had five players earn all-conference honors with Knott, Skyler Spiller, and Tyler Fitzgerald taking first team honors while Gruszka and Van Gemerden earning second team honors.
  • Head coach Alain Savage was named Coach of the Year by the TCHC.
  • Knott led the TCHC with 77 points including 37 goals and 40 assists, which were league highs.
  • Fitzgerald posted a 2.24 goals against average allowing 36 goals while recording 379 saves and three shutout wins.
 
CSUN
  • Finished 22-1-1-2 for the season.
  • Defeated Loyola Marymount 4-2 to win their fourth straight Western Collegiate Hockey Conference title.
  • Won 18 of their last 21 games since losing to ETBU.
  • Geno Norraik leads the team with 52 points including a team-high 24 goals.
  • Quentin Abaya has 30 assists to lead the Matadors.
  • Caleb Mead has a team-best 2.28 goals against average allowing 22 goals while making 244 saves all season.
