PREVIEW | @ETBU_Baseball Opens 2020 Season on Friday | #ETBUvsCC

MARSHALL, Texas – Opening their 2020 season with a home and an away series, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team begins a three-game series against the Centenary College Gents on Friday. ETBU will open up at home on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then travel to Centenary College on Saturday for a doubleheader in Shreveport, La. ETBU returns several players from last year's 30-win season.

ETBU
  • Finished 30-14 last season, including a 17-7 American Southwest Conference record, which was good for third place
  • Reached the ASC Red Bracket Championship game against eventual conference champion Concordia University-Texas
  • Return 30 members from last season's team while adding 22 newcomers
  • Brady Faulkner finished seventh on the team in batting average (.313) and fifth in RBI (27)
  • Alek Arellano had the lowest ERA on the team with a 1.66 ERA. This included 21.2 innings pitched allowing seven runs (four earned) on 17 hits and 13 strikeouts. He would earn All-ASC Honorable Mention
  • Derrick Findley led all ETBU pitchers with nine wins on the mound. In 70.2 innings pitched, he allowed 39 runs (28 earned) on 57 hits while striking out 32 batters. He would earn All-ASC Second Team honors
  • ASC Freshman of the Year Alan Underwood went 5-2 with a 2.63 ERA while finishing as the strikeout leader for ETBU with 33
  • Won four of the last five meetings with CC
  • Took two-of-three games against CC last season
  • Lost Game 1, 8-1. Findley took the loss with six runs on five hits allowed while Underwood went five innings allowing two runs on three hits
  • Won Game 2, 12-2. Corbin got the win with five innings of one run, five-hit ball and six strikeouts. Erik Gipson (1.0 IP, one run, two hits), and Arellano (1.0 IP) had an appearance in the game. Jake Miller drove in four RBI on two hits
  • Won Game 3, 7-0. John Marrs started and earned no runs on four hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Arellano (0.2 IP) and Cole Godkin (1.0 IP) would have an appearance in the game. Zachary McAdams had two hits in four at-bats while scoring a run

CC
  • Finished 18-23-1 last season
  • In the 8-1 win against ETBU, Chris Haggard had a team-high three hits while Tyler Erickson drove in two RBI. Austin Warner got the win with a complete seven-inning, one run, four-hit ball
  • Preston Ludwick led the Gents last season with 55 hits, a .382 batting average, a .569 slugging percentage, 42 RBI, four triples, three homers and a .475 on base percentage.
  • Cody Crowder was second for CC with 23 stolen bases and led with 30 walks.
  • Connor Cudd finished with a team-high five wins and four saves. In 54.0 innings, he posted 3.17 ERA with 21 runs on 39 hits while striking out 25 batters.
  • Have the longest winning streak against ETBU all-time in this series at six games (4/1/16-2/11/17)
