LINCOLN, Neb. – A late second half run by Nebraska Wesleyan University ended East Texas Baptist University's bid for a win as the Tigers fell, 76-73, in the Snyder Classic. ETBU is now 2-3 on the year.
For the second night in a row
Aaron Gregg led the team in scoring with 19 points and had four assists.
Ryan Elzy collected a career-high 16 points shooting 70% from the floor (7-of-10) with four rebounds.
Darry Moore posted his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Chris Haynes finished with 10 points and seven rebounds while
Charlie Cochran added nine points and nine rebounds. NWU's Peter Lash led all scorers with 24 points.
Both teams played even the entire night as ETBU shot 43% from the floor, 33% from the arc, and 59% (13-of-22) from the stripe. NWU made 39% from the floor, 14% from the three-point line, and 70% (14-of-20) from the free throw line. Both teams had 45 rebounds and ETBU forced 12 turnovers.
ETBU had a 15-point lead, 61-46, with 7:34 to go in the game when Moore made a layup. It was the next seven minutes that ETBU's offense went cold only making two buckets in that time as NWU went on a 25-7 run. With 1:08 to go, NWU had a three-point lead, 71-68, but Elzy cut it to one with just 54 seconds left. Four straight free throws and missed three-pointer in the next 20 seconds put NWU back up by five points, 75-70, with 11 seconds to go. Gregg nailed a three-pointer to come back within two, 75-73 with six seconds left but NWU went 1-of-2 from the free throw line as Haynes grabbed the rebound. A long three-point shot was no good as NWU took the win, 76-73.
DARRY MOORE DUNK
The first half went both ways as ETBU had a seven-point lead just four minutes in, 11-4, but NWU was up by four, 17-13 (13-2 run), with 12:39 left in the half. ETBU went on a 7-2 run over four minutes for a five-point lead, 24-19. Gregg made it the five-point lead on an and-one situation.
Jayden Williams kept the lead at five-points, 27-22 (6:56), and then Elzy put ETBU up by seven points, 31-24, with 5:39 left. Haynes kept the seven-point lead on a jumper with 1:48 to go but NWU cut the halftime lead to five, 37-32, with 1:39 on the clock. Neither team scored in the final minute as ETBU held onto the five-point lead.

Ryan Elzy posted a career-high 16 points going 7-of-10 from the floor. He was 2-of-3 from the free throw line with four rebounds.
