@ETBU_Hockey Splits with Arkansas

SHREVEPORT, La. - Playing at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum for the first time in 14 months, the East Texas Baptist University hockey team would come away with a split against the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. ETBU is now 11-4 on the season.

The Tigers would need four third period goals to pull away 8-5 winners in game one on Friday night. Both Davis VanGemerden and Mitchell Dolese led the team with two goals each. Other goal scorers came from Caleb Goudreau, Timothy Zittell, Filip Soderstrom, and Matt Duncan.

In game two, ETBU started off with three goals before allowing the Razorbacks to score six straight, which led to a 6-3 defeat. Goudreau would put two goals on the board for ETBU while Duncan added the second goal.
 
Game 1: ETBU 8, ARK 5
Arkansas opened the first period with the first two goals of the game. But Dolese (7:36) and VanGemerden (10:18) would respond for the Tigers to tie the score at two before the Razorbacks retook the lead at 3-2 to end the period. The second period saw three goals between the two teams with ETBU scoring twice from Dolese (2:57) and Goudreau (5:23) to make it 4-4 after two periods.

The third period proved to be decisive with ETBU scoring four power play goals. Timothy Zittel (2:17) gave ETBU the lead for good at 5-4. VanGemerden (10:31) netted his second goal of the game while Matt Duncan made it 7-4 (12:09). Filip Soderstrom would then score the eighth goal (16:18) for an 8-4 lead before Arkansas ended the run with a late goal. That would be enough for ETBU to win 8-5.

Game 2: ARK 6, ETBU 3
Only one goal was scored in the first period and that would come from Goudreau (11:44) on a power play. Goudreau then added a second (2:46) to open the second period while Duncan (4:14) followed with one to give ETBU a 3-0 lead.

But the rest of the second period saw Arkansas score four unanswered goals to lead 4-3. They would add to their lead just 45 seconds into the third period. ETBU would have countless chances to catch up, which included two power plays. Yet, Arkansas was able to thwart off any opportunities and would seal the win with a late goal 6-3.

ETBU will head on the road to Springfield, Mo., to take on the Ice Bears of Missouri State. The first game will be at 7:00 PM on Friday night while Saturday will start at 12:00 PM.
