HCKY | Sweep Aggies in Home Debut

SHREVEPORT, La. - In a series that pitted two high-scoring teams, it was the East Texas Baptist University hockey team that did most of the scoring as they swept the Texas A&M University Aggies in their home openers at George's Pond. The Tigers remain unbeaten at 5-0 to start the season.

In game one, the Tigers overcame an early two-goal deficit to score five unanswered goals. Carson Loos would spark ETBU with two second period goals while Mitchell Dolese, Timothy Zittel, and Caleb Goudreau each came up with goals of their own.

Game two would see ETBU leading 2-1 after the first before they pulled away for a 7-2 victory. Devon Baird netted two for himself while other goals came from Filip Soderstrom, Dolese, Trevor Begley, Goudreau, and Spencer Mills.

Game 1: ETBU 5, TAMU 2

The Aggies would get on the board first in the first period with two goals for a 2-0 lead. ETBU was held in check for the first part of the period, but found the net when Dolese scored. In the second period, Loos would tie the game (8:49) before scoring a power play goal (15:17) putting ETBU ahead.

Late in the period, ETBU killed off five-on-three and five-on-four power plays by the Aggies to keep their one goal lead after two. The third period was a defensive one as Angus Laing kept A&M off the board. Ultimately, Zittel and Goudreau each scored an empty netter to ice the 5-2 win.

Game 2: ETBU 7, TAMU 2

The first period started when Dolese (16:34) scored to give ETBU the early lead. After a goal by the Aggies equaled the game at one apiece, the Tigers netted the second goal from Baird (7:21). ETBU would then start the second period with two power play goals from Soderstrom (16:29) and Begley (9:56) for a 4-1 lead.

TAMU tallied their second goal with 8:57 to play in the second. However, Baird recorded his second of the game with 33 seconds to play. The third period would see two more Tiger goals coming from Goudreau (10:02) and Mills (8:28). Once again, Laing came up with a brilliant performance in net, holding TAMU scoreless as ETBU skated off 7-2 winners.

The Tigers return to George's Pond next weekend to meet with Maryville University. It will be a 10:30 PM start on Friday night and 2:00 PM start on Saturday.
