#TIGERSWIN | HKY D2 | ETBU Earns Another Sweep Moving Win Streak to 19

SHREVEPORT, La. - Winning ways continued for the East Texas Baptist University hockey team as they swept Texas State University at George's Pond. ETBU has now won 19 games in a row and move to 24-2 and stay undefeated in the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference. ETBU is also ranked sixth in the latest ACHA Division II West Region poll.
 
In game one vs. Texas State, ETBU dominated the score, 10-2. Out of the 10 total goals, Filip Söderström, Carson Loos, and Matt Duncan all scored two goals each. The remaining four goals were scored by Trevor Begley, Mitchell Dolese, Caleb Goudreau, and Dominic Desjardins. In goal for the Tigers on Friday night was Tyler Fitzgerald, stopping 14 out of the total 16 shots he faced.
 
In game two on Saturday, ETBU outscored the Bobcats, 12-2, securing them their eighth sweep in a row. Duncan scored three out the Tiger's 12 total goals, earning him his first hat trick of the season. For the second night in a row, Söderström scored two goals, securing his place as #1 in the league for assists and #2 in points scored. Ethan Huante also recorded two goals, one being his first college career goal. The remaining five goals for the were scored by Devon Baird, Bowen Buchanan, Tristian Aun, Noah Gaudette, and Ronnie Bregante. In the netminder was Angus Laing, successfully shutting down 20 out of the 22 shots on goal that he faced.
 
GAME 1: ETBU 10, TXST 2
The Tigers skated onto the ice and immediately went to work. Just 4:04 into the tilt Söderström got the puck rolling for the Tigers scoring the first goal assisted by Gaudette and Goudreau. Halfway through the first period, ETBU drew a penalty, giving them a one-man-advantage. Carson Loos used this opportunity to further the lead, 2-0, with help from Dolese and Söderström. After 3:11 had gone by, the Tigers went back on the Powerplay (PP). Only this time, Dolese and Bowen Buchanan assisted Duncan in improving the lead to 3-0 with 6:32 to go. With only 2:47 left in the period, Begley buried the puck in the back of the net to finish the period off at 4-0.
 
ETBU's scoring streak didn't slow down in the second period. Just 1:25 back in, Dolese started the period off pushing the score to 5-0. As the game reached the halfway point of the second period, Goudreau and Dominic Desjardins both scored unanswered goals less than a minute apart from each other making it 7-0. Duncan claimed his second goal of the match just two minutes later at 5:52 left in the second. The Bobcats responded to Duncan's goal 1:34 later to finish the period down, 8-1.
 
Scoring slowed down in the final 20:00 of the game. Söderström snagged his second goal of the night just 2:37 into the period, assisted by Gaudette and Goudreau. The Tigers received a penalty for interference, putting them down a skater, but Loos still managed to sneak through the Bobcat's defense and score a shorthanded goal to finish out the first game. Loos' goal brought the final score to,10-2, taking the first game in the series.
 
 
Game 2: ETBU 12, TXST 2
The first period started out at 4:41 into the game with Duncan scoring the first goal of his hat trick assisted by Begley and Blake Branum. Less than a minute later Gaudette scored off a pass from Bregante and Söderström, improving the score to 2-0. Halfway through the first Aun grabbed his own goal and was assisted by Huante and goalie Angus Laing to finish the first period up, 3-0.
 
Buchanan got the 2nd period scoring started with Devon Baird and Ronnie Bregante just 1:58 after the puck drop. Roughly 3 minutes go by before Matt Duncan scored his 2nd goal of the night, and final goal of the 2nd period, to bring the Tigers up 5-0.
 
The Bobcats started out the third by scoring a power play goal just 1:46 into the period. Söderström responded by scoring two unanswered goals before Texas State scored their last goal of the night with 7:46 left in the game. Devon Baird countered Texas State's goal roughly 4:00 minutes later while on the power play with Gaudette and Goudreau, pushing the Tiger's lead to 10-2. With just 0:41 left in regulation, Bregante tallied his own goal, assisted by Dolese and Dmitri Sergeev. The Tiger's 12th goal was scored by Huante with just 0:04 left before the final buzzer, securing ETBU's 12-2 win and another sweep.
 
ETBU will be back at George's Pond on February 4th and 5th against Southern Methodist University for their final series before heading to the 2022 TCHC Playoff Tournament.
