FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Five player scored in double figures as East Texas Baptist University ran away with a 20-piont win over George Fox University, 95-75, in Oregon. ETBU is now 2-1 on the year.
Darry Moore led the way with 26 points as
Jayden Williams added 20 points. Aaron Gregg posted 12 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists as Ryan Elzy had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaden Conner finished with 10 points.
ETBU shot 62 percent from the floor, 50 percent (7-of-14) from the arc, and 55 percent from the line forcing 15 turnovers. GFU finished shooting 42 percent and was 41 percent from the arc. ETBU out rebounded GFU, 45-20.
GFU took a 8-4 lead early only to see ETBU go on a 10-0 run over two and a half minutes as Gregg scored on a fast break. With 8:36 left, GFU tied the game at 20 and then took a 30-24 lead with 5:51 left. They still had a four-point lead, 36-32, with 3:42 to go but ETBU had a 9-0 run over three minutes for a five-point lead, 41-36 on a Moore layup. ETBU then took a three-point lead, 41-38, at the half.
After GFU tied the game up at 41 to start the half, ETBU went on a 14-2 run for a 12-point lead with 16:32 left to play. Elzy stole the ball and put it in a fast break layup to end the run. GFU cut the lead to nine, 67-58, at the 10:44 mark. Just 44 seconds later it was down to seven points, 70-63. It was still a seven-point lead by ETBU, 75-68, with 6:47 to go but ETBU went on an 11-0 run to go up, 86-78, with 3:44 left to go. Michael Roberts made a three-pointer with 58 seconds left for a 20-point lead and then then two free throws by Martin McDowell mad it, 95-73. GFU made a layup with six seconds left to make the final, 95-75.
ETBU will take on host Pacific University at 10:00 p.m. central time on Saturday night.
