ABILENE, Texas – Consistent at-bats for East Texas Baptist University led to a come-from-behind win over McMurry University, 12-10, in game of the American Southwest Conference series. ETBU is now 16-8 and 11-2 in the ASC.
ETBU scored seven runs over three innings to take the lead for good as they posted 15 hits on the day.
Jase Jones,
Jordan Hara, and
Brett Wagner all had three hits as
Nick Massarini and
Jake Miller added two hits. Massarini led with three RBI as Jones posted two RBI and Hara, Wagner,
Ben Lea, and Miller all had one RBI. Massarini recorded his second home run of the year as one of the four extra base hits in the game.
Four pitchers were used in the game as
Peyton Miller started going 2.2 innings recording two strikeouts but gave up six earned runs on eight hits.
Braden Karnes received the win going 2.1 innings with one strikeout allowing three earned runs.
Robert Croft worked three innings only giving up one earned run on three hits.
Cody Johnson earned the save pitching the ninth inning recording two strikeouts to retire the side.
McM took an early 1-0 lead but ETBU scored three in the second inning for a two-run lead. Lea singled in the first run and then Massarini had a two-run home run for the 3-1 lead. By the end of the third inning, though, McM had a 6-3 lead. Massarini added a RBI in the fourth to pull within two, 6-4.
ETBU then scored six runs over the next two innings for a 10-9 lead. In the sixth inning, Hara singled in the ninth run of the game for a 9-9 tie as Miller scored. Jones and Miller singles both brought in a run to go up by two, 11-9. In the ninth inning Jones singled in a run for the two-run advantage, 12-10.
ETBU will play a double header on Saturday to finish out the ASC series.
