MARSHALL, Texas – Silenced by the Centenary College pitching, #18 East Texas Baptist University dropped their last non-conference game of the regular season, 10-1, to the Gents. ETBU is now 27-10.
ETBU produced just six hits and one run in the mid-week game allowing three errors and eight earned runs. Five pitchers saw the mound as
Braden Karnes received the loss going three innings giving up two earned runs with on strikeout. All five pitchers recorded just four combined strikeouts from
Rece Gustafson,
Matthew Irwin,
Cole Godkin, and
Ben Burroughs.
Jacob Evangelista and
Ben Lea each combined for four of ETBU's six hits. Lea recorded his 16
th home run of the year for the lone run in the game.
Centenary scored one in the top of the first inning as ETBU tried to counter in the bottom. Evangelista had a single and stole two bases to get to third with one out. A strike out and a fly out ended the chances to tie the game. Centenary went on to score one in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the fifth for a 10-0 lead. Lea's home run came in the bottom of the fifth inning for the only run of the game.
ETBU will finish the regular season this weekend hosting the University of the Ozarks.
