Box Score MARSHALL, Tx– On a cold, windy day at Woods Field, the East Texas Baptist University Tigers ended the series against the University of the Ozarks Eagles in a sweep 6-5, via an Austin Barry walk off single. ETBU is now 30-10 on the season and 24-3 in the American Southwest Conference. Jacob Evangelista led the team, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs, while Cole Godkin earned the win with a 1 hit, 0 run relief outing in the 9th.
Pitching and defense held fast for both teams until the bottom of the fourth, when Carson Wilson, who reached on a walk, was driven in by a Ben Lea groundout. The Eagles quickly responded to take the lead 2-1 in the top of the fifth. The advantage for the Eagles was short-lived. Jordan Hara flew out to right in the bottom of the sixth to score Jake Miller and tie the game at 2. After a scoreless seventh, Evangelista sent a two-run homer to left-center field to give the Tigers back the lead, 4-2.
The Eagles, however, were not ready to roll over. They put up a three-spot in the top of the ninth to take the lead 5-4. The Tigers put it all together when it counted. After Ben Lea got back in the hot column with a double and Brett Wagner walked, Chris Robinson legged out a bunt single to load the bases. Austin Barry stepped into the box, 0 for 3 to this point, and sent a hardline drive into right for a walk-off 2 RBI single.
The Tigers will play next in the ASC tournament.
