BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Playing from behind in their final game of the BSC Classic, #5 East Texas Baptist University fell to #12 Birmingham Southern College, 9-4. ETBU is now 3-3 on the year with one of the toughest schedules in the nation.
ETBU had nine hits in the game as
Nicolas Chavez went 3-of-4 with three RBI and a home run.
Connor Massimini and
Jacob Evangelista both had two hits.
Brett Wagner recorded a RBI. Five pitchers were used in the game as
Jagger Neely took the loss.
Peyton Miller went 5.1 innings in relief recording six strikeouts.
Brayden Hodges had the other strikeout.
BSC started off with a 4-0 lead scoring a run in the first and three in the second. Chavez brought in the first run with a single in the fifth to score Massimini. Wagner then cut the lead to two, 4-2, in the eighth inning with a single as
Dylan Burnaman scored. ETBU gave up five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to trail 9-2. Chavez hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to make the final 9-4.
ETBU will host Sul Ross State University next Friday and Saturday in a three-game series.
