MARSHALL, Texas – Rallying with two goals in the second half, East Texas Baptist University men's soccer came from behind to earn a 2-1 win over Hendrix College on Tuesday night at Cornish Field.
Dylan Garcia collected both goals to propel ETBU to the one-goal victory moving the Tigers to 6-6-1.
ETBU out shot Hendrix 10-3, putting eight shots on target with six shots in the second half. Garcia led all players with four shots, while
Junior Lopez added two.
Lars Clark and
Lucas Arreguin each recorded one shot. ETBU's defense held the Warriors to no shots in the second half as all three shots were on goal in the first. Goalkeeper
Ryan Lord made two saves in the win.
Hendrix struck first in the opening half netting a goal in the fourth minute for the early 1-0 lead. The Warriors followed with shots on goal in the 11
th and 17
th minutes but were held to no shots the rest of the match. ETBU pressured with two shots on goal in the 21
st and 36
th minutes as their first shot on goal came in the 14
th minute.
ETBU responded with a dominant second-half performance taking six shots as five were on goal scoring two.
Junior Lopez came out firing a shot on goal in the 47
th minute and then Garcia scored the equalizer in the 57th minute. Arreguin had a look at the goal in the 72
nd minute and less than two minutes later Garcia netted the game-winner off an assist from
Dawson Lopez. ETBU's defense continued to stay strong not allowing any shots as their offense had another look on goal in the 81
st minute from Pennington.
ETBU returns to American Southwest Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Brownwood, Texas, facing Howard Payne University at 5 p.m.
