MARSHALL, Texas – In a tightly contested match at Cornish Field, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team fell short in its regular-season finale in a 1-0 decision to Howard Payne University on Saturday evening. ETBU ends the regular season at 5-6-3 and 1-5-0 in the ASC.
After a scoreless first half, the Tigers created several strong opportunities in the second frame.
Giselle Laredo opened the half with a shot in the 48th minute, followed by an attempt from
Caroline Smith less than a minute later. Laredo added another chance in the 52nd minute, and
Bryanne Izaguirre nearly broke the deadlock with a look in the 66th.
Howard Payne, however, capitalized in the 78th minute to take a 1-0 lead that held until the final whistle.
ETBU finished the night with eight total shots, three of them on goal — Laredo in the 3rd minute, Smith in the 37th, and Smith again in the 49th.
Cadence Tischler recorded six saves, making stops in the 4th, 16th, 24th, 60th, 64th, and 68th minutes to keep the Tigers in the game.
ETBU will be the fourth seed in the upcoming ASC Tournament on Thursday in Belton, Texas.
