BELTON, Texas – In a tightly contested first half, East Texas Baptist University held its own against top-seeded University of Mary Hardin-Baylor before falling 3-0 in the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Thursday night. ETBU ends their season at 5-7-3.
Caroline Smith and
Giselle Laredo led ETBU with three shots apiece as the Tigers finished with nine total shots and five on goal. Cadence Tishler had four saves facing 18 shots with seven on goal.
ETBU battled the Crusaders to a scoreless draw through the first 45 minutes, recording three shots—all on goal—while keeping UMHB in check. ETBU's first shot on goal came in the third minute from
Giselle Laredo and Bryanne Izaguire had her shot on goal in the 27
th minute.
Charisma Arteaga had a shot that was saved in the 41
st minute as the half ended at 0-0. Tischler had four saves in the half stopping the first just a minute into the match.
The Crusaders broke through just one minute into the second half finding the back of the net to make it 1-0. ETBU continued to press for an equalizer, with
Caroline Smith putting two shots on goal in the 64th and 77th minutes. Laredo had a look in the 79
th minute but it went left and then UMHB scored in the 85
th minute for a 2-0 lead. The third goal came in the 89
th minute as ETBU fell, 3-0.
