CLAREMONT, Calif. – Scoring seven runs in two innings late in the game, no. 9/10 East Texas Baptist University earned their first win of the year, coming back for the victory over no. 7/8 Pomona-Pitzer College, 9-4. ETBU is now 1-2 and has four more games in California, with three against no. 18 La Verne.
Dylan Burnaman had three hits in five at-bats with two RBI to lead ETBU.
Hunter Rumachik posted two home runs for five RBI, while
Connor Massimini had a home run, and
Nathan Harmon recorded a RBI.
William Howard and
Nicolas Chavez both had two hits.
Jackson Jones received the win in relief, pitching five innings, allowing no hits, no runs with five strikeouts.
Nolan Bushko finished the game in the ninth, recording one strikeout and giving up one hit.
Tyler Bogusz started the game and went three innings with two strikeouts, giving up four runs on six hits.
PPC took a 3-0 lead after two innings. Burnaman brought in the first run in the third inning with a single to center field as
Carson Livesay came in. PPC added another run in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. Harmon walked the bases loaded in the fifth inning earning his first RBI at ETBU as the Tigers were down two, 4-2.
The seventh inning was the difference as ETBU found their offensive groove, scoring five runs. Massimini hit the first home run of the year to right field with one out, cutting the lead to one, 4-3. Three batters later, after a Chavez single and Harmon walk, Rumachik hit the second home run of the inning to give ETBU the lead, 6-4. Burnaman singled to center field four batters later, scoring Howard for a 7-4 lead.
With two outs in the eighth and one on after Harmon singled, Rumachik collected his second home run of the game for two runs to move their lead to five runs, 9-4.
Bushko came in the ninth and helped shut down the Sagehens, facing four batters, allowing one hit with one strikeout.
ETBU will take on the University of Redlands on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. central.
