BROWNWOOD, Texas – Taking all four games in the American Southwest Conference series in Brownwood, No. 20/25 East Texas Baptist University run-ruled Howard Payne University in game four, 15-5. ETBU is now 20-10 and 7-1 in the ASC. ETBU had a decisive nine-run surge over the first three innings setting the tone for the win.
Landry Powell started for the Tigers, pitching three innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks, with two strikeouts.
Jackson Jones followed, giving up three earned runs in one inning with four hits and two walks.
Carson Speegle completed the game with three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three for the win, moving to 3-1.
Luke Bumpus led ETBU with three runs, three hits, and two RBIs, contributing a double.
Ben Lea delivered a home run, securing three RBIs and scoring three runs, with four hits and two stolen bases.
Hunter Rumachik excelled with a triple and three RBIs, adding two hits.
Luke Finn contributed three runs, two hits, and two RBIs, including a double and a stolen base.
Nathan Harmon then had two RBIs on two hits, and
Carson Livesay and
William Howard had one RBI.
ETBU opened the game with a strong first inning, scoring two runs. Finn reached on an error and later scored on Livesay's double. Rumachik added another run with a single, putting the Tigers ahead 2-1 after the first inning. The second inning saw the Tigers extend their lead with four more runs. Lea hit a three-run homer, following RBI hits from Finn and Bumpus. This offensive surge put the Tigers up 6-1.
In the third inning, ETBU continued their offensive momentum by adding five more runs. Finn's double brought two runs in, and Rumachik's triple added another pair. This inning put the Tigers in command with an 11-2 lead. Howard Payne responded with three runs in the fourth, narrowing the gap to 11-5.
ETBU added four more runs in the seventh inning. Harmon's double drove in two runs, and he later scored on a wild pitch, finalizing the score at 15-5. The game concluded with ETBU securing a decisive victory, finishing with 18 hits and 15 runs.
ETBU will host LeTourneau University in a four-game ASC series starting on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
