BB | ETBU Can't Climb Out of Early Deficit in Opening Loss to LETU

MARSHALL, Texas – A two-run seventh inning by LeTourneau University put the game out of reach for No. 20/25 East Texas Baptist University as they fell to the Yellowjackets in game one of the American Southwest Conference series, 6-3. ETBU is now 20-11 and 7-2 in the ASC. LETU's win broke their 10-game losing streak to ETBU dating back to 2022.
 
Hunter Rumachik had a home run for one RBI and scored a run. Will Howard contributed two RBI, secured through his lone hit.  Jackson Jones made a strong pitching appearance, striking out eight batters over five innings and allowing only two earned runs. Ben Lea and Luke Bumpus led the team with two hits each.
 
Matt Krall started for ETBU, pitching two innings and allowing four earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks for the loss. Jones relieved with a solid performance, throwing 5 innings, striking out eight, and giving up two earned runs on four hits, while issuing 3 walks. Braden Karnes pitched one inning in relief, striking out all 3 batters he faced and walking two. Trip Barron closed the game with one inning, allowing one hit and recording no earned runs.
 
In the first inning, LeTourneau took an early lead, scoring three runs on a double. ETBU answered with two runs of their own. Carson Livesay and Luke Bumpus reached base, and Howard's single through the right side brought them both home, making the score 3-2 after the first inning.
 
In the third inning, LeTourneau added another run to their tally with a single that brought in one run, extending their lead. ETBU responded with a solo home run by Rumachik, narrowing the deficit to 4-3 after three innings.
 
The game remained tight, with strong pitching and defense from both sides, holding the score steady through the middle innings. In the seventh inning, LeTourneau capitalized on its scoring opportunity, adding two more runs to make it 6-3.
 
ETBU had a chance in the eighth with Bumpus doubling and Lea advancing him to third, but they could not convert, keeping the score at 6-3. The final inning saw no further scoring, with LeTourneau securing a 6-3 victory over the Tigers.

The two teams will play a double header on Thursday starting at 4:00 p.m.
