HALLSVILLE, Texas – Opening the 2025 season in dominant fashion, East Texas Baptist University shut out the University of Dallas, 7-0, on Friday evening at Bobcat Stadium in Hallsville. The match was moved from Marshall to Hallsville due to playing conditions after inclement weather. ETBU is now 1-0.
Seven different Tigers found the back of the net, with four goals coming in the first half.
Eduardo Herrera opened the scoring in the 19th minute, followed by
Joshua Daley who added another just 20 seconds later to make it 2-0.
Aiden Fortenberry then assisted
Jared Zuniga in the 39th minute to extend the lead to 3-0, and Abdulaqader Majid's goal in the 41st minute made it 4-0 heading into halftime.
The Tigers kept their foot on the gas in the second half, starting with
Lars Clark's goal in the 75th minute, assisted by Fortenberry. Fortenberry then picked up his second assist on
Luke Hunsinger's goal in the 83rd minute, before delivering his third assist of the night on Brendan Gajewski's strike just two minutes later.
ETBU finished with 22 shots, 11 of which were on target. Goalkeeper
Ryan Lord recorded four saves, preserving the shutout and keeping the Crusaders scoreless throughout the match.
"It was a total team effort tonight," said Coach
Chris Crawford. "There's not one MVP; it's a team MVP. It's a team win."
The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., when they host the University of the Ozarks at Cornish Field.
