MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Taking a 5-0 lead after three innings, East Texas Baptist University (7-4) didn't look back leading the entire way for their third win in a row taking down host Huntingdon College (7-3), 10-6. The Tigers built an early lead with three runs in the first inning and maintained control with additional scoring in the third and ninth innings. Huntingdon attempted a late comeback with six runs in the ninth but fell short.
Carson Livesay finished with three hits and six RBIs, including a double and a stolen base.
Kahne Nolen scored four runs, adding a double and two hits.
Judah Hill also added a hit and an RBI.
Jobee Boone collected two hits for one RBI as
Justin Flannery and
Raef Wright each posted a RBI.
Isaac Thornton allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters and walking three in eight innings of work. Vincent Armellio struggled in relief, facing five batters in 1/3 inning, giving up four earned runs on two hits and one walk.
Harris Woodside closed the game, pitching 2/3 inning without allowing a hit or run, recording two ground outs on just three pitches.
ETBU opened the game strong against Huntingdon, scoring three runs in the first inning. Nathn Harmon drew a walk and eventually scored on a walk from Flannery. Livesay then singled up the middle, driving in
Connor Massimini and Nolen. The inning ended with the Tigers leading 3-0.
In the third inning, ETBU extended its lead. After Massimini walked and Nolen was hit by a pitch, J. Flannery laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing both runners. Livesay grounded out to second, allowing Massimini to score, and Boone singled to center, bringing Nolen home. The Tigers held a 5-0 advantage through three innings.
The sixth inning saw Boone double to right center and subsequently score on an RBI single by Wright to make it 6-0.
In the seventh, Nolen doubled and scored on a single by Livesay for a 7-0 lead.
ETBU added three more runs in the ninth inning. Nolen and Flannery both scored on a double down the left field line by Livesay. Hill singled, bringing Livesay home and pushing the score to 10-0.
Huntingdon responded with six runs in their half of the ninth, highlighted by a three-RBI triple. However, the Tigers secured the victory with a final score of 10-6 as Woodside came in as the second pitcher of the inning and shut down Huntingdon.
In their next game, ETBU will face no. 10 Adrian College (MI) at 11 a.m. CT Saturday, Feb. 28 in Montgomery, Ala.
