SHERMAN, Texas — Scoring seven runs in the first three innings, East Texas Baptist University (18-10) played sound baseball in a 10-1 victory over Austin College in a Wednesday night game at Baker Field.
Carson Livesay led ETBU with four of their 12 hist performance while allowing just one run defensively.
Livesay went 4-of-4, including a double and a triple, while scoring three runs with a RBI.
Connor Massimini matched Livesay's scoring output with three runs of his own, contributing three hits and an RBI.
Joaquin Costa drove in four RBIs on two hits, as
Jobee Boone and
Juan Ortigoza had a RBI.
ETBU pitchers combined for nine innings of work in their game against Austin, surrendering only one run and no earned runs.
Tyler Bogusz started the game, pitching three innings without allowing a run, striking out two batters, and issuing no walks for the win.
Declan Conry followed with two innings pitched, conceding just one run on two hits.
Harris Woodside,
Garrett Walker,
Nolan Bushko, and
Carter May each contributed an inning of scoreless relief, with Woodside and Bushko both recording two strikeouts and Walker allowing just one hit.
The game opened with scoring three runs in the first inning. Livesay singled to center field, and Massimini followed with a single to left. A throwing error allowed
Carter Nannini to reach base, scoring Livesay. Costa then singled up the middle, driving in Massimini and Nannini to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, ETBU added two more runs.
Colby Wilson reached on an error and advanced to third before being tagged out at home. Livesay singled and advanced on a wild pitch, scoring on Massimini's single. Costa's single through the left side brought home Massimini, extending the lead to 5-0.
The Tigers continued their momentum in the third inning.
Nathan Harmon singled and stole second base, then scored on Ortigoza's single. Livesay tripled to right center, bringing in Ortigoza before being tagged out at home, pushing the score to 7-0.
Austin College scored its only run in the fourth inning on an error to cut the lead to six, 7-1 .
In the sixth inning, ETBU capitalized on wild pitches and walks. Livesay and Massimini both walked and advanced on stolen bases. Costa walked with the bases loaded, scoring Livesay. Boone reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Massimini to score, increasing the lead to 9-1.
The Tigers added one more run in the seventh inning. Wilson singled, and Livesay doubled to put runners in scoring position. Nannini's sacrifice fly brought home Wilson, resulting in a 10-1 advantage.
Bushko and May pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to seal the win, 10-1
ETBU plays next on Thursday, April 9, when they travel to face Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas, starting ASC play.
