KERRVILLE, Texas — Playing to a tie in their first American Southwest Conference match of the year, East Texas Baptist University and Schreiner University ended at 1-1 after 90 minutes on Thursday. ETBU kept the match level during a second-half stretch from 72:25 to 76:27, absorbing four Schreiner attacking actions without conceding.
Dylan Garcia scored a goal and finished with two shots, putting one on goal.
Brenden Davidson recorded an assist for ETBU.
Joshua Daley led the team with three shots, including two on goal.
Ryan Lord played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves.
ETBU finished with nine shots to Schreiner's eight, while both teams put five shots on goal and each side recorded four saves. Garcia supplied the Tigers' scoring with an assist from Davidson, and ETBU also generated two shots and two corner kicks during a late stretch while the match was tied.
Garcia put ETBU in front at 9:40, finishing a goal assisted by Davidson for a 1-0 lead. The Tigers kept pressure on from there, adding five shots and a corner kick through the 26th minute, including saved attempts from Daley and
Braxton Ladwig. Schreiner tied it at 43:05 on Gabe Zagastizabal's goal, and the half ended 1-1.
ETBU kept Schreiner off the board through second-half pressure, including three corner kicks from 72:25 to 76:00 before Lord saved Layton Norwood's shot at 76:27 with the match tied 1-1. The Tigers pushed late as Daley put a shot on goal at 86:19, then earned two corner kicks before
Preston McLean's shot went high at 89:26. The scoreless second half left the final at 1-1.
ETBU travels to Brownwood, Texas, to face Howard Payne on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Citizens National Bank Soccer Field.
