#TIGERSWIN | WS | Two ETBU Second Half Goals Give ETBU Fifth Win of the Year

MARSHALL, Texas — Scoring two goals in the second half, East Texas Baptist University earned their fifth win with a 3-1 victory over Centenary College (LA) Tuesday at Cornish Field. ETBU finished with a 22-7 shot advantage, including 15 shots and six corner kicks in the second half. 
 
Caroline Smith scored twice, put four of her five shots on goal, and recorded the game-clinching goal. Grace Shurley added an unassisted goal and finished with five shots. Hannah Warren tallied two assists while adding two shots, including one on goal. Taylor Lauster played all 90 minutes in goal; made one save and recorded the win. 
 
ETBU struck first in the first half, with Shurley scoring at 6:59 for a 1-0 lead. Centenary (LA) tied it on an own ETBU goal at 28:12, but the Tigers generated three shots and three corner kicks late in the half while Lauster added a save at 43:30 as the two teams went into halftime tied 1-1. 
 
Smith put ETBU ahead 2-1 just 37 seconds into the second half, finishing a goal assisted by Warren. The Tigers kept pressure on four corner kicks in the opening 7:15 of the half and six shots between 59:33 and 67:54. Smith scored again from Warren's assist at 85:43, and ETBU finished off a 3-1 win over Centenary (LA).
 
ETBU dives right back into American Southwest Conference play, staying home to host Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m. 
 
HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half 
  • Shurley opened the scoring for ETBU at 6:59, putting the home side ahead 1-0. 
  • The Tigers added shots from Paige Barclay and Shurley before Centenary (LA) generated a shot and two corner kicks, with a team goal at 28:12 tying the match 1-1. 
  • ETBU pressed late with shots from Kelsey Flanakin, Ava Trevino and Shurley, then earned three corner kicks in the final five minutes, while Lauster made a save at 43:30 to keep the half tied 1-1. 
Second Half 
  • Smith scored at 45:37 off a Warren assist to put the Tigers ahead 2-1, and ETBU followed with four corner kicks and three shots from 46:54 to 52:15. 
  • The Tigers kept the pressure on from 59:33 to 67:54 with six shots and a corner, including three saves by Centenary, before the Ladies generated a corner and a shot in the 70th minute. 
  • Smith added another goal at 85:43, again assisted by Warren, to make it 3-1, and ETBU finished with a 3-1 win.
