PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
On the sweep of Belhaven.
“When you look at that series, it was just three well-played ballgames by both sides. There weren’t a whole lot of errors going around. Their guys did a good job on the mound. Our guys did a good job on the mound. Both teams hit the ball really well and it was just three well-played ballgames.”
On the pitching’s improvement.
“Well we’re competing in the zone and we’re able to throw strikes. We’re giving up our fair share of hits, but the difference in this year and kind of in year’s past, we saw a little bit last year. When teams are getting hits against us, there’s not any free runners on base. We’re letting the hitters get themselves out and letting them put into play and letting our defense go to work. We got one of the top defenses in the conference and those guys need to play too. Cody did a nice job competing in the zone, mixing up his pitches well and throwing all of his pitches for strikes and letting us work for him behind him.”
On the hitting being consistent.
“With our lineup, we’re pretty fortunate to be deep with our lineup. We’re still not clicking on all cylinders because it’s somebody new stepping up every time. But eventually, they got to pitch to somebody. In game two, they had to pitch to Dynas there in that situation and he knocked one out of the yard and we had Conner Combs and Warbington in game three do the same thing. The good thing I saw this weekend is that we didn’t have to rely on the home run ball to necessarily win the games. We won the base path battle. We did nice jobs running bases, getting base hits, and situational hitting. That was a big key in all three games. We were able to win that aspect of the game and come out on the winning end.”
