Historic Season for @ETBU_Soccer Ends - Best Season in NCAA Division III Era

RICHARSON, Texas – Playing with all heart down to the last two minutes of the match, East Texas Baptist University's historic season in men's soccer came to an end as the University of Texas Dallas netted the golden goal in the 108th minute in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. ETBU finishes the season with 10 wins and won the program's first-ever NCAA Division III post-season match. The 10 wins are the most since 2005.

ETBU took 11 shots with three on goal while Texas Dallas had 20 shots with four on goal. Daniel Rutter and Silas Sangano both took three shots. Sangano had two on goal while Rutter and Jacob Lopez each had one. Bryant Botello finished with three saves. Texas Dallas was led by Brian Rahmoune's five shots with two on goal. Chase Therrien had four saves.

Locked up in the first half, Texas Dallas took 10 shots to ETBU's five. Both teams had their chances to score but ETBU was the only team to have a shot on goal. Jacob Lopez had ETBU's only shot on goal in the 10th minute as Texas Dallas' Therrien grabbed it to keep it at 0-0. ETBU had their first chance to score in the third minute on a header by Michael Andrews that went high. Texas Dallas countered in the fourth minute that was blocked by an ETBU defender with another header shot in the fifth minute. Texas Dallas' attack kept coming with their third straight shot in the sixth minute that was also blocked by the ETBU defense. In the 11th and 12th minutes, Texas Dallas took three more shots as two went high and the third blocked once again by the defense. The 16th and 17th minutes featured two more blocked shots as Texas Dallas' next shot did not come until the 38th minute that went wide. The defense once again stood strong blocking their fifth shot of the game in the 40th minute with a rebound shot going wide. ETBU's Andrews had a chance to take the lead in the 44th minute but his shot went wide right in the 44th minute.

Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the second half as each of their seasons are on the line. Texas Dallas put a shot up in the 50th minute that was blocked and the Botello had a save in the 56th minute. Tristan England's shot hit the cross bar for ETBU in the 58th minute and then Lopez's shot was high in the 62nd minute. Sangano almost made it 1-0 in the 66th minute but his shot was saved by Texas Dallas' Therrien.  Texas Dallas had a shot high in the 70th and 72nd minute. Sangano had his second shot on goal in the half in the 81st minute and then Rutter had a shot on goal in the 85th minute. In the 84th minute, Botello grabbed a Texas Dallas shot on the right side of the net to secure the 0-0 tie as the teams headed to overtime.

The first overtime brought some intense soccer as both teams had their chances to score but came up short. Rutter's shot in the 92nd minute went high and then Texas Dallas had shots in the 93rd minute, saved by Botello, and in the 98th minute that went high.

It was the 108th minute that Texas Dallas netted the winning goal as they advance to the ASC Championship.

ETBU recorded their finest seasons since 1999 posting 10 wins and winning an ASC Tournament match.
