BELMONT, N.C. – More history was made in North Carolina as the East Texas Baptist University acrobatic and tumbling team earned their first win of the year over Belmont-Abbey College, 197.81-126.90. ETBU was neck-to-neck through six events but it was the team event that secured the win. In the other meet vs. King College, ETBU fell, 248.19-197.81.
ETBU held a 25.30 to 21.90 edge over Belmont-Abbey after the Compulsory event. The best score for ETBU was a 7.35 in the toss heat. Belmont-Abbey made some strides in points as they came out ahead of ETBU in the Acro event, 22.45 to 22.05. ETBU had 7.0 or higher in all three events.
Belmont-Abbey finished a point ahead of ETBU in the Pyramid event with a 24.40 to ETBU's 23.65. ETBU earned an 8.55 in the Open event of Heat three. ETBU made up the close ground by scoring a 22.20 in the toss event to Belmont-Abbey's 20.75. ETBU had an 8.05 in Heat one of the 450 Salto. ETBU edged out Belmont-Abbey in the Tumbling event, 39.20 to 37.40, to stay ahead in the standings. An 8.80 was scored in the Open Pass as ETBU's top score of the night.
ETBU then sealed the win with a 65.41 in the team event. Belmont-Abbey didn't compete and earn points.
ETBU will be back on the road in two weeks as they travel to West Virginia for two meets.
