ELKINS, W.V. – Facing Davis and Elkins College for the first time, the East Texas Baptist University acrobatics and tumbling team came up short of their second win of the year, 239.55-215.46. ETBU is now 1-3 on the year and heads to Phillipi, W.V., for a meeting against Alderson Broaddus College on Saturday.
Starting out in the compulsory, ETBU trailed by just over a point, 30.7 to 29.4. ETBU's best event was the toss heat gaining a 9.20. In the acro event, Davis & Elkins moved ahead by five points taking the event, 26.15 to 22.20. ETBU had 9.3 or high in all three events with a 9.50 in heat three (7 element).
Staying close in the pyramid event, ETBU scored 25.80 and Davis and Elkins had a 28.35. ETBU scored a 9.3 in the open heat.
After halftime, Davis and Elkins kept their slim lead with a 27.3 to 26.90 score in the toss event. ETBU's top heat was the 450 Salto with an 8.60. In the tumbling event, the two teams were pretty much even as ETBU scored a 39.275 and Davis and Elkins had a 42.525. An 8.6 was given to ETBU in the open pass as the top score.
Coming down to the team event, Davis and Elkins outscored ETBU by 13 points which ended up being the big difference in the meet. Davis and Elkins finished with an 86.03 to ETBU's 73.74.
ETBU will continue their West Virginia trip on Saturday at Alderson Broaddus.
