MARSHALL, Texas – Competing against an opponent that hadn't competed since early March 2020, the East Texas Baptist University acrobatics and tumbling team face Hawai'I Pacific University in Ornelas Gym on Wednesday night. HPU came away with a 271.80 to 240.705 win over ETBU. ETBU is now 0-3 on the year but the 240.705 is the most points scored in program history.
ETBU started the meet off strong in the compulsory trailing HPU by just a point and half, 37.45-35.95. They scored a 9.50 in the Pyramid Heat and a 9.35 in the Toss Heat for their best two events. HPU then moved after the Acro event claiming a 29.20 to 24.85 advantage. In the 7 element, ETBU gained an 8.65 and an 8.40 in the 6 element. HPU took an 11-point lead into halftime, 95.85-84.45, as they won the Pyramid event, 29.20-23.65. ETBU had an 8.60 in the Open (Heat 3) as their top score.
After halftime, ETBU gained a little ground scoring 25.50 points to HPU's 27.05 in the Toss. They scored an 8.80 in the open and an 8.60 in the 450 Salto. HPU had a six point differential in the Tumbling event, 54.30 to 48.775. In the Aerial Pass, ETBU had a 9.00 and then a 9.25 in the Open Pass for the best scores.
In the team event, HPU came away with a 94.66 to finish with 271.86 while ETBU had an 81.93 for a total of 240.705.
ETBU finish their home stand on Thursday, April 1, when they host Baylor University at 6:00 p.m.
