BELTON, Texas – Putting together their best meet of the year, the East Texas Baptist University acrobatics and tumbling team came up short of victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 263-44-248.625. ETBU did take one event over UMHB in toss heat.
The compulsory event was the closest event of the meet as UMHB had just a 0.30 lead, 36.95-36.65. ETBU scored a 9.15 in the acro heat and then had their best individual score of the night with a 9.85 in the pyramid heat. They followed with a 9.70 in the toss heat and finished with a 7.95 in the tumbling heat.
ETBU kept it close after the acro event scoring 27.60 to UMHB's 28.95. In all three heats, ETBU scored 9.0 or better. In the five element they posted a 9.15 and then a 9.25 in the six element. They then finished posting a 9.20 in the seven element.
It was another tight event in the pyramid event as UMHB was just 0.6 points ahead of ETBU, 28.65-28.05. In the inversion, they scored a 9.65 and then a 9.20 in both the synchronized and open heats.
ETBU then won the toss heat by 1.05 points. They scored 26.35 points to 25.30 from UMHB. In the 450 Salto, ETBU had a 9.05 and then scored a 9.30 in both the synchronized and open toss heats. This cut UMHB's lead at the half to just 2.2 points, 94.55-92.30.
UMHB pulled away in the second half of the meet outscoring ETBU, 51.60 to 47.775 in the tumbling event. ETBU scored a 9.20 in the aerial pass and a 9.60 in the open pass. In the final team event, ETBU scored 82.20 to UMHB's 91.99 to finish out the meet with 248.625 points.
ETBU finishes the season with the most points scored in a meet in program history and also winning an event at a meet.
