A&T | ETBU Has Best Scores of Season Falling Shy of Victory to CUW

MARSHALL, Texas – In their most exciting meet of the season, the East Texas Baptist University acrobatics and tumbling team fought to the final event but came up shy against Concordia University Wisconsin. CUW held off a late ETBU surge after halftime to take the meet, 243.105-227.905. ETBU's total points are the most of the season improving by 17 points from their last meet.
 
The meet opened up with a close compulsory event as ETBU trailed CUW, 35.45 to 33.15. ETBU had two scores of 9.0 or better with a 9.20 in the Pyramid Heat and a 9.50 in the Toss Heat. They then cut CUW's lead in the Acro Event as they were just 0.35 points behind in the event and just under three points overall, 62.3 to 59.7. ETBU scored a 9.45 in the 5 Element, 8.25 in the 6 Element, and an 8.85 in the 7 Element for their 26.55 points.
 
Making a move before halftime, ETBU took the Pyramid Event over CUW, 28.90 to 26.90 as they were 0.6 points behind, 89.20 to 88.60. ETBU recorded 9.0 or above in all three heats. They started with a 9.60 in the Inversion followed by a 9.5 in the Synchronized and a season best 9.8 in the Open to win the event.
 
It was a close Toss Event after halftime as CUW edged ETBU, 25.65 to 24.45. ETBU's best heat was the Open with an 8.60. Headed into the Tumbling Event, ETBU trailed CUW, 114.85 to 113.05. Battling their hardest in the Tumbling Event, ETBU held off CUW to win this event, 45.525 to 44.375. ETBU scored an 8.65 in the Aerial Pass as their best heat and had an 8.15 in the Duo Pass. As they headed into the team event, ETBU trailed by just 0.65 points, 159.225-158.575.
 
It came down to the final team event where CUW pulled away with a score of 83.88 for 243.105 points. ETBU scored 69.33 points to finish with 227.905.
 
ETBU will host #5 Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday, March 29, at 6:00 p.m.
