MARSHALL, Texas – Taking on their fourth nationally ranked team this season, the East Texas Baptist University acrobatics and tumbling team produced their most points of the season against #8 Hawai'i Pacific University. ETBU finished with 237.66 points but came up short just 22 points of an upset over HPU who had 259.155.
The Compulsory Event gave ETBU 34.55 points which was their second best of the season for that event. They finished just three points behind's HPU's 37.45. In three of the four events, ETBU had 9.0+ scores with a 9.10 in the Acro Heat followed by a 9.55 in both the Pyramid Heat and Toss Heat. They then scored 25.50 points in the Acro event adding another 9.0+ score posting a 9.30 in the 5 Element made up of
Brianna Brown,
Addison Prather, and
Jaiden Droddy.
In the Pyramid Event, ETBU added another 25.05 points to HPU's 29.04 points going into halftime just nine points down, 94.00-85.10. In the Pyramind Event, ETBU tied their season best in the Heat 3 Open with a 9.90. They also had a 9.35 in the Inversion (Heat 1).
Scoring a season best 25.10 in the Toss, ETBU scored 8.0+ in all three events. They were just three points behind HPU's 28.00. ETBU had an 8.35 in the 450 Salto followed by an 8.00 in the Synchronized heat. In the Open (Heat 3), they posted an 8.75 for the top score for the event this year.
Scoring 45.15 points in the Tumbling event with their second best score of the year behind a 45.525 vs. Concordia Wisconsin, ETBU kept pace with HPU before the team event. The Triple Pass of Brown,
Rebecca Kalafatis, and
Addison Prather brought ETBU an 8.1 which was the highest in the event for the Tigers. ETBU then had an 8.075 in both the 6 Element Pass (R.Kalafatis) and Open Pass (
Harleigh Prather).
With their best outing of the season in the team event, ETBU scored 82.31 points to finish with 237.66. HPU posted 83.23 points just finishing ahead of ETBU in the event but took the meet overall.
ETBU will finish the 2022 season on Thursday, April 7, when they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6:00 p.m.
