PEARL, Miss. – Committing six errors, no. 25 East Texas Baptist University couldn't overcome the early mistakes as they fell in game one to no. 21 Belhaven University, 6-3. ETBU is now 4-2 and will play a double header on Saturday at Trustmark Park.
ETBU had seven hits in the game with one double by
Nathan Harmon. Harmon went 2-of-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Joaquin Costa added two hits while
Carter Nannini and
Justin Flannery each provided a RBI.
Matthew Irwin started the game going 2.1 innings with two strikeouts, four runs scored, one earned run, and was given the loss.
Conner Smeltzer followed for 4.2 innings with three strikeouts and no earned runs while
Garrett Walker finished the final inning giving up one hit.
Belhaven scored two runs in each of the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead. Nannini singled in Harmon in the fourth inning to cut the lead to three, but the Blazers added one in the fifth and seventh inning for a 6-1 lead. Harmon doubled in a run in the eighth while Flannery had the other RBI in the inning for the final, 6-3.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m.
