MARSHALL, Texas- Setting to complete its three-game home stand this weekend, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team will play on Wednesday and Saturday. The Tigers will first take on non-conference opponent Austin College on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 6:00 p.m. and then close out the week against American Southwest Conference opponent LeTourneau University on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Heading into this week's matches, the Tigers are 6-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in ASC play this season.
ETBU has had several tight battles against Austin College over the years. The Roos command the decisive edge in the matchup at 16-3-1in 20 matches played. The last time these two teams met, AC shut out the Tigers with a 2-0 win in 2014. Leading the way offensively for the visitors is Sarah Battles, who has three goals on the season. AC is 3-7 and lost their last three matches. Their last win came on September 24 in a 1-0 win over the University of Dallas.
The Tigers close out the week against rival LeTourneau University on Saturday, Oct. 7. ETBU owns the series matchup against LETU going 17-4-4 overall. Â The Tigers came away with the 2-1 overtime victory last season in Longview. LETU is led by Kelli Sonnier and Kennedy Keer. Both players have three goals made coming into Saturday's contest to lead the team as LETU is 6-3-2 and 2-2-1 in the ASC.
Leading the attack for the blue and gold is freshman
Ashleigh Rondon and senior
Heather Brady. Coming into this week's matches, Rondon leads the team in goals made (5) as well as shots on goal at 19. Brady is right behind the freshman with four goals made on the season and is third on the team in overall shot attempts with 16. Junior
Chase Swann and
Hannah Murin are tied in total goals this season with three. On the defensive end,
Claire Montondon continues her stellar season at goalkeeper. Montondon has recorded 25 saves this season along with a save percentage of 67.6 percent. The freshman has four wins to just three losses as the primary goalie for the Tigers.
This week's games are crucial according to Head Coach
Erik Solberg. Although ETBU will be enjoying a home stretch, the victories will not come easy. Â "It's going to be a tough match. We expect them to be really well coached and really well organized. They're going to make us fight for every inch. It's going to come down to us taking our opportunities and finishing our chances," Solberg said.
The Tigers will kick-off the home stand against Austin College Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Cornish Field. Â
